Redlands, CA – Travis Samuel of the H&R Block Pro Cycling Team takes the Sprint Jersey at Stage Two of the Redlands Cycling Classic. This was a hard fought stage at this historic race and the team is excited to be protecting the Green Jersey going forward.
We got a chance to chat with Travis after the stage about what happened, and this is what he had to say about the team’s effort to get him on the podium.
“I had already eyed up this stage for getting into the break as I knew that if I was in the break, I had a very good chance at taking the points jersey. Bailey and I covered everything in the first lap and about a quarter of the way through the second lap, a split of about 25 guys got away. I was the only one from the team to make the split. Guys were still attacking and chasing each other so I sat more towards the back just watching everything. Then, when Carpenter and Axeon attacked and got a good gap on the climb and the group started to ease, I just slingshot around everyone to bridge across solo. A lap later is when the other two guys came across to make it a break of five riders. For the sprint points, I out-sprinted everyone on the first one, and for the second sprint points, everyone said they had no interest in the points anymore so I took max points again. Even though I was in the breakaway I couldn’t have done it without all the help from the guys today!!”
The Team is looking forward to another hard stage today where they will take part in the Greenspot Individual Time Trial.
